Fillings

Fillings may be necessary due to tooth decay, cracks or chips. In the past the only option for material was silver amalgam fillings. Nowadays, fillings can be made from natural, tooth-colored composite resin. The choice is yours. Ask us about the advantages and disadvantages of each type of filling.

One disadvantage to silver fillings besides the obvious aesthetic problem is that sometimes they can cause the tooth to weaken and discolor. Fortunately, silver fillings can easily be replaced with the stronger resin filling. The resin filling can strengthen the tooth while looking more natural. They can last much longer than the silver amalgam filling.

With either choice of filling there will be some sensitivity to hot and cold substances until the tooth has adjusted to its new filling.
