TMJ/TMD Barrington RI
Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) syndrome or TMJ joint disorders are medical problems related to the jaw joint.
Some of the symptoms associated with TMJ include neck or jaw pain, headaches, dizziness, ringing in the ear, clicking of the jaw, a dull ache in the facial area or around the ear, sinus pain and difficulty chewing.
After a thorough dental exam we will distinguish any TMJ problems and set up a plan to alleviate the pain caused by TMJ.
Such treatments could include a mouth guard or splint to reduce teeth grinding and clenching. Very often these mouth guards are worn at night and will ease muscle tension. Other non-invasive treatments include anti-inflammatory medications and warm compresses on the jaw. Sometimes orthodontics may be recommended to alter the bite.
